Table Talk: La Lucha

La Lucha
147 Avenue A
NY, NY  10019

As downtown keeps on getting cooler, more restaurants keep on popping up that won't break the bank.  Lucha Libre, a recently opened real deal taqueria—complete with bright pink walls and Lucha Libre memorabilia like masks and 60's movie ads—brings a little Mexico City to all of us stuck here in New York.

This small eight table eatery serves authentic Mexico style street tacos with no frills.  The tacos (all $3.50 and under!) come in your choice of steak, pork, or chicken. Veggie options include chile, mushroom and cheese. For something different try the Cebollitas (onions with lime juice and "special sauce") or Chicharron de Queso (fried cheese) both $6 or less. With all the Lucha Libre inspiration it's a good thing there is no liquor or we have a feeling there might be more real life reenactments going on inside! They also sell super cute t-shirts modeled on old Lucha posters for about $22.  ¡Viva Mexico!
