Recently, I found myself in sunny Florida and I was super excited to check out the great designer outlet center, Prime Outlet International. But no matter how much of a shopaholic I am, after walking for hours with the sun beaming on my face, I began to feel worn out, hungry, and exhausted. I was not looking forward to the nasty food court offerings available at most outlets, so imagine my surprise when I came across Kafe Kalik!

The folks at Prime Outlets were genius—they built a full service Caribbean restaurant, Kafe Kalik Royal. The Kafe Kalik chain has two locations in its native Bahamas, and serves typical Caribbean fare alongside fusion dishes like sushi rolls and fajitas. Bahamian cuisine is similar to the Latin food I’m used to with a few twists here and there. The meal began with an assortment of warm baked breads and different infused butters from sweet to savory that were all spectacular. From the very large menu I chose the famous Conch chowder that screamed comfort food. It was creamy and delicious. Then I moved on to the Plank Roasted Salmon served with a tamarind sauce that was a perfect compliment to the fish. But my friend’s Half Chicken–in–a–Bag dish was my fave (and it’s not only because the cooking concept is fun)! I could really taste the lime mojo seasoning and it reminded me of my mom’s cooking. Depending on the night you stop Kafe Kalik, you can also catch a variety of entertainment ranging from live music bands, cigar rolling booths, and the Junkanoo (a traditional Bahamian performance).

Kafe Kalik is unique and yummy—the perfect intermission for a day of shopping!
