This traditional Ecuadoran beverage tastes like a refreshing juice-bar smoothie (its name comes from Quaker oats). This recipe uses a juicer to get fresh juice from oranges and carrots.
1 cup water
1/2 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
4 oranges, peeled and quartered
1 can (20 oz.) juice-packed crushed pineapple
1/4 cup honey
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. grated nutmeg
1. In a small saucepan, bring 1 cup water to a boil. Stir in oats. Reduce heat to medium and cook, stirring, until oatmeal thickens. Remove from heat and set aside to cool.
2. Using a juicer, extract juice from the oranges and carrots. In a blender, combine cooked oatmeal, the juices, pineapple, banana, honey, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Blend until smooth. Transfer mixture to a pitcher. Cover and refrigerate until chilled.
