Cocktail of the Week: The Top Floral Drinks

Florals have long been a popular trend in cocktails, and are often seen during Fashion Week—served frequently to supermodels looking to cool off after heating up the catwalk. As temperatures continue to warm up this summer, flowers are blooming and inspiring leading bartenders to incorporate fragrant aromas and jewel-hued petals in their drinks. But some curious patrons are still hesitant to go au naturale. From lavender to elderflower, we discovered the top three floral drinks that are not only in high demand, but also avsolutely delicious.

Top Floral Cocktail: Lavender Sapphire Collins

After a long, freezing winter, this summer is all about hitting the beach or the pool with a drink that gives your mouth a little pop. The Lavender Sapphire Collins is a feminine twist on the Tom Collins, which easily excites the senses with its delicate fragrance produced by pure lavender syrup. Many people appreciate the blue-violet lavender for its ability to relax anyone with its fresh aroma alone. It’s no wonder that lavender is used as a natural remedy for insomnia, depression, and anxiety. When lemon juice, fizzy club soda, and muddled ripe fruit are added, you get a cocktail that’s not only refreshing, but also faintly sweet, while also serving as a stress reliever! For this particular recipe, we went with Bombay Sapphire Gin as this specific spirit includes 10 botanicals, such as lemon peel, juniper, and coriander for a blossoming kick to your palate.

Ingredients:
1 ½ oz. Gin (We used Bombay Sapphire)
¾ oz. Lemon juice
½ oz. Lavender syrup
3 oz. Club soda
Lemon Wedges

Preparation:
Squeeze half a lemon into a Collins glass. Add lavender syrup and gin. Then, stir and fill with ice. Top with club soda. Garnish with lemon wedges.

Top Floral Cocktail: Flip Flop Punch
One of the best things about summer is all the weekend rooftop bashes and swanky soirées one can throw. We learned last week that punches are not only perfect for large groups, but they’re also easy to make and cost efficient. As home entertaining is on the rise this year, we decided to select another punch that’s guaranteed to get everyone mingling and dancing. New York City-based mixologist Phil Ward has created the ultimate summer party drink: the Flip Flop Punch. Beat the heat with the ultimate social cocktail, which is loaded with a crisp, tart taste, thanks to icy grapefruit juice and chamomile-infused rum. For thousands of years, the tiny, white chamomile flower, which resembles a miniature daisy, has been used to calm nerves, ease muscle tension, and combat nausea. A cocktail that won‘t make you sick? Bring it on!

Ingredients:

2 oz. Chamomile infused rum (We used Flor de Caña)
4 Sugar cubes
3 oz. Club soda
1 oz. Lemon juice
1.5 oz. Grapefruit juice
Grapefruit slices.

Preparation:

Chamomile infused rum is made by adding four bar spoons of chamomile tea to one bottle of rum. Let the concoction sit for an hour and 45 minutes. Then, strain out the tea. Save the bottle for storage. Dissolve four sugar cubes in 1 oz. of club soda. Add the rest of the ingredients one at a time. Make sure to stir as each ingredient is added. Once all of the ingredients have been stirred, add ice. Stir the punch again until it’s chilled. Strain punch in a glass or punch bowl. Top with 2 oz. club soda. Garnish punch with grapefruit slices.

Top Floral Cocktail: Treetini

Spice up your love life this summer with a cocktail that’s made with a Latin aphrodisiac. The Treetini, a cool, light, and mouthwatering martini, is the first of its kind to incorporate VeeV, a spirit made from a super fruit. Acai, or the “Viagra of the Amazon,” is a royal purple berry with a flavor that’s often compared to chocolate dipped in red wine. Aside from its sophisticated, rich taste, the acai’s juice is famous for being a mouthwatering love potion favored by Brazilians! The Treetini enhances the acai’s powerful characteristics with honeyed mango juice and orange wedges. Yet it’s the added elderflower cordial, a syrup made from thick, white blossoms mixed with sparkling water, that makes savoring a Treetini feel like enjoying a freshly picked orange. Experience the taste of summer with a Treetini whenever you need to brighten up your day!

Ingredients:
2 oz. VeeV Acai Spirit

1 oz. Mango juice
Splash of elderflower cordial

Orange slices

Preparation
:
Mix all ingredients together. Shake well and strain into martini glass.
