
Canelazo

This delicious hot toddy of fiery aguardiente (an anise-flavored liqueur) and cinnamon will surely leave you in good spirits.
1 cup light brown sugar
4 cinnamon sticks
1 cup aguardiente or rum of choice
1 tbsp. fresh lime juice
Granulated sugar
Lime slices, for garnish
1. In a double boiler, combine 2 cups water, brown sugar, and cinnamon sticks. Stir over boiling water until sugar dissolves, then continue cooking for 10 minutes, making sure that mixture does not boil, and lowering the heat if necessary. Stir in aguardiente and lime juice and remove canelazo from heat.
2. Wet rims of four small glass tumblers with water or lime juice and press upside down into a shallow bowl of granulated sugar. Pour canelazo, including cinnamon sticks, into tumblers. Garnish with lime slices.
