After a five-day tour of the southern region of Spain, First Lady Michelle Obama and her daughter, Sasha, ended their vacation yesterday with lunch at Spain’s royal family retreat on the resort island of Mallorca. King Juan Carlos, who gave a warm welcome to the First Lady by kissing her hand, Queen Sophia, and the fashionable Princess Letizia, greeted them.

The lunch menu was royal for sure, consisting of Andalusian-style chilled gazpacho soup, char grilled turbot, veal escalopes with mustard, Oriental rice with sautéed mushrooms, a Mallorca-style vegetable ratatouille and sliced fruit with ice cream. To drink? Wines from the northern regions of Rueda and Rioja. They ended the visit with King Juan Carlos giving Mrs. Obama some seeds for the White House garden as a parting gift, while the queen made a present of handicrafts typical of Mallorca.  How gracious!
