Gourmet Latino Festival

Gastronomy has become the new craze in the US within the past several years, and food & wine festivals have been popping up everywhere on the map. So it's surprising that as much of a "foodie" culture that we are, there has never been a legit prominent festival of celebrating Latin cuisine. I mean, what better way to celebrate and showcase Latin culture than by way of food, drinks and music?

Three motivated and inspiring Latinas—Karen Uribe, Mariana Suarez, and Claudia Castro—had the same idea, so after a couple of years developing the concept, the trio launched the First Gourmet Latino Festival! Festival will take place on June 4-12, 2010 in Astor Center in New York City. This first-ever socially conscious celebration of Latin gastronomy and culture will feature anyone (Latin) who is in the food and beverage industry.  There will be more than 30 personalities, from chefs like Aaron Sanchez and recently-named Iron Chef Jose Garces to Julian Medina.  You'll have the opportunity to attend cocktail & wine events, a tasting tent, seminars, food events, and nightlife parties and feast in different food, beverages, and cultures from countries all over Latin America.

Besides sounding like a super-fun festival to attend, you can also feel good knowing you're contributing to improving the lives of Latino farmers in the U.S. and Latin America.  A portion of ticket sales for the Gourmet Latino Festival will go to GrowNYC’s (formerly the Council on the Environment of NYC) New Farmer's Development Project.
