3 Perfect Guac & Tequila Cocktail Pairings for National Guacamole Day

This Tuesday is National Guacamole Day! It's also Mexican Independence Day - the real one, that is (versus Cinco de Mayo). What better time, then, to mix up one of Mexico's tastiest and most traditional recipes?

Invented by the Aztecs and appropriated by pretty much everyone, guacamole appears in dishes throughout the Americas. In honor of its special day, we've paired inventive guacamole recipes with a few of our favorite Sauza Tequila recipes. Sweet paired with smoky? We've got that. Creamy with spicy? We've got that, too. Decadent with bubbly? You know the answer.

1. Chipotle-Goat Cheese Guacamole

The smoky heat of this Chipotle-Goat Cheese Guacamole pairs perfectly with sweet and fruity flavors.

Mix up the guacamole using the recipe below, and then click through to meet its cocktail match! 

Ingredients:

  • 2  tbsp. finely chopped cilantro leaves, divided
  • 2  tsp. finely chopped white onion, divided
  • 2  tsp. minced jalapeño or Serrano chilies, divided (optional: remove seeds and membranes)
  • ½ tsp. Kosher salt
  • 2   large ripe avocados, peeled and seeded
  • 4  oz. crumbled goat cheese
  • 2  tbsp. chopped canned chipotle chilies
  • 1  small plum tomato, cored, seeded, and finely chopped
  • 2  tsp. freshly squeezed lime juice

Preparation:

  1. In medium bowl, use back of spoon to mash 1 tbsp. of cilantro, 1 tsp. onion, 1 tsp. minced chile, and ½ tsp. salt together against bottom of bowl.
  2. Add avocados and gently mash with fork until chunky-smooth.
  3. Add 4 oz. crumbled goat cheese and 2 tbsp. chopped canned chipotle chilles.
  4. Fold remaining cilantro, onion, and chile into mixture.
  5. Stir in tomatoes and lime juice, taste to adjust seasonings.
  6. Serve with warm corn tortilla chips.

2. Marvelous Mango Margarita

This delish Marvelous Mango Margarita isn't just an ideal partner for smoky chipotle-goat cheese guac, it's also the perfect sip for extending summer into September and beyond. Full of bright, fresh flavors, it reminds us of pool parties and sunshine-filled afternoons.

Ingredients:

  • ½ large ripe mango
  • 1 oz. Sauza® Blue Silver 100% Agave Tequila
  • ½ oz. JDK & Sons™ O3 Premium Orange Liqueur
  • 2 oz. fresh orange juice
  • ⅔ oz. lime juice
  • ½ oz. simple syrup
  • 4 oz. ice

Preparation:

  1. Peel, seed and chop mango
  2. Put all ingredients except ice in blender and blend until smooth.
  3. Add ice and blend once more.
  4. Pour mixture into glass and enjoy!

3. Artichoke Guacamole with Toasted Pine Nuts

Texture is the ticket in this Artichoke Guacamole with Toasted Pine Nuts. Creamy, buttery artichokes and chunky avocado provide the backdrop for crunchy, toasted pine nuts. The guac's mild flavor is complemented by spicy drinks, most notably those infused with red and chili peppers.

4. Spicy Sauza-Rita

 

Spicy Sauza-Rita? Yes, please!...especially when served with cool, creamy guacamole. Saucy, sassy, and spicy, this tasty tequila cocktail turns up the heat just enough to make us feel like we're back on the beach.

Ingredients: 

  • sugar, to rim glass
  • salt, to rim glass
  • red pepper, to rim glass
  • 1 oz. Sauza® Blue Silver 100% Agave Tequila
  • 2 ozs. beer
  • 1 oz. frozen limeade concentrate
  • 1 oz. water
  • dash hot sauce
  • chili pepper, to garnish

Preparation:

  1. Chill martini glass, and then rim with sugar, salt, and red pepper.
  2. Combine all remaining ingredients except chili pepper in shaker and stir.
  3. Strain into glass.
  4. Garnish with chili pepper and serve.

5. Lobster Guacamole

 

Lobster Guacamole! Yes, you read that right. Lobster and guacamole TOGETHER. Can you imagine anything more deliciously seductive? We can't.

  • 2 tbsp. finely chopped cilantro leaves, divided
  • 2 tsp. finely chopped white onion, divided

  • 1 lb. whole lobster or 4 oz. lobster meat, steamed, cleaned and rough chopped
  • 1 small plum tomato, cored, seeded, and finely chopped
  • 2 tsp. freshly squeezed lime juice
  • Japanese pickled ginger for garnish (optional)

Preparation:

  1. In medium bowl, use back of spoon to mash 1 tbsp. cilantro, 1 tsp. onion, 1 tsp. minced chile, and ½ tsp. salt together against bottom of bowl.
  2. Steam, cool and pick meat from lobster and rough chop. Add to bowl.
  3. Add avocados and gently mash with fork until chunky-smooth.
  4. Fold remaining cilantro, onion, and chile into mixture.
  5. Stir in tomato and lime juice; taste to adjust the seasonings.
  6. Add Japanese pickled ginger for garnish (optional).
  7. Serve with warm corn tortilla chips.

6. Strawberry Sparkler

 

This Strawberry Sparkler is fabulous on its own, but when served alongside creamy, decadent lobster guacamole, it takes traditional fizzy sips to new heights. What's more to say? Bubbles and lobster: two great tastes that go great together. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

  • 3 strawberries
  • 1 lime wedge
  • 1 tbsp. sugar, to rim glass
  • ½ oz. chilled rose champagne
  • 1 oz. Sauza® Blue Silver 100% Agave Tequila
  • ½ oz. limeade
  • ½ oz. DeKuyper® Strawberry Liqueur

Preparation:  

  1. Wash, stem, quarter and freeze strawberries at least 1 hour (can be done day ahead).
  2. Run wedge of lime around rim of champagne flute and dip in plate of sugar to coat rim.
  3. Place 3 frozen strawberries in bottom of prepared flute and add champagne. 
  4. In shaker filled with ice, combine tequila, limeade, and strawberry liqueur. Shake and pour into glass.
  5. Add squeeze fresh lime if desired and serve immediately.
