Fair isle sweaters, once the mainstay of ski lodges, abuelitos and preppies everywhere, have continued to seep into the collective fashion consciousness. The trend has morphed and reemerged recently as the shawl collared, tie front intarsia pattern sweater, which looks incredible with jeans and boots. (FYI: Intarsia is a knitting technique that creates a chunky pattern throughout the sweater.) Just as it can evoke Swedish chalets, intarsia can elicit connotations of faraway lands like South America and the Middle East with ethnic-y prints that would blow your grandpa’s cardigan away.
