What do celebs do when they can’t decide between two things? They get them both, of course. So why should it be any different when it comes to beauty?
A major trend emerging from Hollywood is two-toned hair, with dark color at the crown and light color at the ends. When done in very natural tones, a la the gorgeous Camila Alves, it creates a sultry and romantic look. When done is contrasting tones, it offers a very edgy and high-fashion look. Whatever look you’re aspiring to achieve with it, the technique is modern and on-trend.
Here’s how it’s done, according to star stylist Kristan Serafino who has worked on Camila’s hair. “The multi-tonal color can be achieved by an ‘internal’ coloring technique where the stylist scoops out the top section of hair and clips it out of the way,” explains Serafino. “Then the stylist highlights the internal sections of the hair - with a high lifting soft blonde color in Camila’s case. After coloring, when the untouched top section is released over the colored section, it will give this gradual lightening effect.”
When you head to your hairdresser, be sure to bring a magazine tear-out (or simply print this page) to ensure there’s nothing lost in translation.
And of course, with hair color it’s all about maintenance! You want to keep those luscious locks looking like you’ve just stepped out of the salon. Serafino recommends using a shampoo and conditioner formulated especially for colored hair to keep it looking fresh and vibrant.
