We got the scoop from Rennae King, the Senior Director of Product for LensCrafters, to break down the best frames for your shape. We also teamed up with Dr. Mark Jacquot, the Senior Director of Eye Care at LensCrafters to learn the best tips on improving the health of your eyes. Because while frames can be upgraded, the health of your eyes is another story.
1. Round Face
If you have a round face, go for frames that are more rectangular, as they'll create balance and add definition to your face.
Eye tip #1:
Take it easy on screen time. "We are seeing so many people with irritation from spending hours each day on computers, tablets and smart phones," says Dr. Jacquot. "Try the 20-20-20 rule, every 20 minutes look 20 feet away for 20 minutes to relax your muscles and help prevent dry, itchy eyes."
For those with heart-shaped faces, try a cat-eyed frame that will balance your jaw line.
Eye tip #2:An eye exam is important for your health, and we're not just talking eye health. "The eye is the only place that doctors can see inside the body non-invasively," says Dr. Jacquot. "At a routine eye exam, your doctor can check for signs of diabetes, high blood pressure and other vascular disorders."
Those with oval faces, consider yourself lucky! "Oval-shaped faces can wear practically any frame, so it's fun to experiment with a variety of frame shapes. We are seeing bolder styles than ever before so don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone."
Eye tip #3:Keep calm. "Your eyes can show stress," says Dr. Jacquot. "Chronic stress can cause a blisters inside the eye—called serous retinopathy—that can cause blurry or wavy vision."
Square face? Go for rounded frames that will soften your lines. "Keep in mind that the frame should not be wider than the broadest point of your face."
Eye tip #4: Eat right. "Lutein absorbs up to 90% of blue light and acts like sunscreen for the eyes so eat plenty of kale, spinach, brussels sprouts, corn and carrots that contains high levels of lutein."
