The star that graced the Oscar De La Renta F/W 2011 collection was definitely fur, like we’ve seen on many a runway this time around, hinting to us that Oscar’s more luxurious side is back. With the obvious trend in tow, there were a few other runner-ups that also made a grand impact on this Dominican designer’s collection. Paired with all the fur apparel were plenty of extravagant embellishments like a strapless beaded floral gown, feathered skirts, splashes of sequins, and Indian and tribal-inspired prints.

As in his Spring collection, Narciso Rodriguez brought back the 3/4 length dress to his F/W 2011, only this year it had more personality with a mix of sheer material, printed silk, and some color. The collection was a hip variety of color blocking, graphic and abstract designs in fall colors like black, grey, navy blue, and red with splashes of cool purples and pinks. All the pieces spoke to the world of the arts, which is where Narciso says his inspiration came from.

Known for her prim and proper aesthetic, Carolina Herrera’s F/W 11 collection was as lovely as you'd expect. It carried the air of sophistication that Herrera has become synonymous with, using black and grey knee-length and Maxi hemlines, high collars that flipped over the shoulders, silk and textured fabrics in her usual classic shapes. Some looks that were out of the ordinary for Herrera were a few neon blue and pink-colored dresses and sequined tops, but what ran consistent throughout the show was fur.

The Custo Barcelona Fall/Winter 2011 collection featured the Spanish designer’s signature artistry, with pieces resembling collages made up of many different fabrics and interwoven materials. Given his usual eccentricity, this collection had cleaner lines and neutral colors with occasional pops of red and purple. The real showstoppers? His patterned and printed leggings, trousers, and tights, which are heavily trending.
Here are some ideas to rock your own, Custo-inspired bottoms:

There’s always a ton of hype surrounding New York Fashion Week. We know you’re probably thinking, “Why should I care about designer runway clothes that only celebrities can afford?” Well, you are only partially right. While Fashion Week may seems like a place for high-society snobs to gather around and obsess about haute couture, it is also the place where trends are set for seasons to come.

In the past month, Selena Gomez has been seen sporting a dress that is long in the back and short up front (dare we say, mullet dress?) two times. First, she wore an Irina Shabayeva strapless dress with a rise and fall hem at the 2011 People's Choice Awards on January 5, then, performing at the El Coliseo in Puerto Rico this past weekend she rocked another short/long all black number.
