To me, the Grammys red carpet is one of the most exciting events of the year. The fashion theme is right in between the Oscars and the MTV Video Music Awards because it’s glamorous, but not too traditional or casual. Like any red carpet event, a lot goes into the preparation.
The first step is getting inspired and the second is experimenting to make that look your own! I mean overall inspiration! Even hair and makeup has a story behind it. We might pose and walk the catwalk like it took us a few hours to look amazing, but in reality it’s a huge production that takes days to make just right.
To share more of my countdown to the red carpet, here are three Grammy-inspired looks:
1. One of my favorite red carpet looks was for Latina Magazine’s 15th Anniversary celebration in NYC!!! I was inspired by pure glamour. My mom always says, "Elegance is rated by your glamour.” I paid tribute to the saying by wearing a gold and beige beautiful Kymerah cocktail dress paired with Giuseppe Zanotti bronze stiletto heels.
2. My second favorite look was for Fashion Week. I wore an off-the-shoulder silk black dress designed by Christian Siriano. My inspiration was Aubrey Hepburn's famous black dress in Breakfast at Tiffany's. I made the look my own by shortening the dress a bit and using a waist belt.
3. My final favorite look was for a UN red carpet event in NYC. I was inspired by Joan Collins' Dynasty era in the 80's. I loved her larger than life style but I wanted to tone it down and make it more classic. I wore a vintage Valentino lilac gown and paired it with a sleek leather YSL belt to emphasize my waist. We finished the look by styling my hair in a bun and adding vintage Chanel gold earrings as the finishing touch!
So the next time you catch me on the red carpet don't ask where I bought my dress. Ask me to tell you the story behind it so you can recreate your own look too!
