Mario Testino was awarded the Moët & Chandon Etoile Award last night in London, Women’s Wear Daily reports. At the Park Lane Hotel, the 56-year-old Peruvian-born fashion photographer received the inaugural accolade from the world’s largest Champagne house. The award recognizes exceptional talent and influence. “I have a sore throat – that’s why you see me wearing this scarf,” Testino said before the awards ceremony. “But I can tell you I’ll be consuming my fair share of champagne tonight.”
Supermodel Kate Moss and her husband Jamie Hince were there to support Testino, who was the official wedding photographer for their wedding this summer. Testino has photographed incredibly high-profile subjects over the years for publications such as Princess Diana, Princess of Wales, Cameron Diaz, Penelope Cruz, Jennifer Lopez and Angelina Jolie for influential publications like Vogue and Vanity Fair. Last year, he was also chosen by Prince William and Kate Middleton to take the couple's engagement photos. “I am very happy to have been asked to cover this historic moment that the whole world was waiting for,” Testino gushed of the honor.
Testino did not stay long for the ceremony, saying he was “busy working.”
“It’s the working class, you know,” he said. “It’s got to be done.” Yup, we know all about that!
