L.A. Fashion Week has always held second candle to the more prestigious fashion weeks around the world: New York, Milan, London and Paris. After all, it's the city that gave Lauren Conrad carte blanche to create her unbelievably lame debut line! And all too often, the shows coming from Smashbox feel anemic and lackluster. Nevertheless, L.A. still attracts tons of celebrities to grace the front rows, especially Latina starlets.
This season, one of the best shows came from a fashion outsider; YMI Jeans, an affordably priced denim line in the under $50 range, produced a show with superior lighting, styling and ambience. It was an exciting and extravagant production that knocked the socks off of everyone who arrived at the cavernous Music Box venue in Hollywood. Vida Guerra showed up on the red carpet appropriately dressed in jeans, Miss Universe Dayana Mendoza floated down the runway in a YMI denim dress and Nina Sky performed their new single "Curtain Call" to kick off the afterparty.
