Puerto Rico High Fashion Week is the most anticipated and prestigious event for the fashion industry both on the island and in the Caribbean. It is the only fashion show that presents collections of principal Puerto Rican designers as well as new talent and special invited guests who have attained international recognition.

Organized and created by Caridad Fernández, Puerto Rico High Fashion Week garners an impressive attendance of between 800 and 1,000 people at each show. The event affords the designers the opportunity to present their creations in front of local and international media as well as to foster collaborations. The 2008 Fall/Holiday collections were recently shown in San Juan Puerto Rico, held over three action packed days in March an inspired combination of established Puerto Rican designers, and the most promising up and coming designers on the island made for some great fashion shows. A special welcome was extended to Custo Barcelona, who participated for the second time as the international visiting designer.

Luis Antonio closed out the show to rave reviews. His designs have been featured on the covers of many fashion magazines, and he's worked as a personal designer for stars such as Jennifer Lopez, Paulina Rubio, and Luis Fonsi. If your interested in buying his clothes he opened a store in Miramar; San Juan, and his fashion designs have sold in Tokyo, and in the United States. Check out his designs by clicking here!

Other featured designers included David Antonio, Eclíptica, Sonia Santiago, Nono Maldonado, Rubén Darío and Stella Nolasco.

About this author

Mariela Rosario,

I'm a raging opinionista and I love to share my ramblings on everything from pop culture to food to stuff that makes me laugh & cry! I've worked in all types of media (TV, film, print) and was previously the online editor at Latina magazine before joining Mamás Latinas. On most nights you can find me working my way through my library of cookbooks or playing with my puppy Lola (my only child so far). I have a wonderful hubby who shares my passion for any and all kinds of travel. Together, we've formed a semi-professional wine drinking team.
