Have we got some huge news for all you Narciso Rodriguez loving fashionistas out there! Internet auction giant eBay is reportedly in talks with the high-end designer to launch the site's very first fashion line.
The agreement with Rodriguez—who's stock recently went up when First Lady Michelle Obama named him as one of her fave designers—would be a huge victory for eBay. The site has long been looked down upon by many in the fashion industry as a venue for cheap imitations and discounted, out-of-style clothing. Rodriguez will also benefit from the agreement, as many high-fashion designers have found it difficult to turn a profit in these hard economic times.
The eight pieces in the eBay collection, titled appropriately enough, "Narciso Rodriguez for eBay," will be sold exclusively on the site starting spring 2010. Every item is priced from $75 to $350. "I've never sold anything at these kinds of prices," Rodriguez told the NY Post, "This gets my work to a wider audience."
Just like any other eBay seller Rodriguez will pay 35 cents to list an item under eBay's "Buy it Now" option, and another fee once the items are sold. eBay spokesman Alan Marks said that Rodriguez will likely rake in "double-digit" profit margins.
