The whole world is swept up with the royal engagement of Prince William to Kate Middleton. But here at Latina, we’ve been seriously obsessed with the blue dress the bride-to-be was wearing at the announcement—and mostly with its Rio de Janeiro–born designer Daniella Issa Helayel of eponymous label Issa London. The royal blue wrap dress perfectly matched Middleton’s massive sapphire engagement ring (which famously belonged to the late Princess Diana) and sold out within 24 hours at various upscale London stores that carry the label.
Middleton has been a fan of the UK-based brand for some time, and she has worn Helayel’s designs to several events. In fact, speculation about the impending announcement reached fever pitch just days before, when it was revealed that Kate’s fave dress maker was also getting into the wedding dress making business.
The Brazilian designer, who also counts Jennifer Lopez and Eva Mendes among her celeb fans, has been designing out of her trendy London apartment since 2008. Her label Issa has been around since 2001, when Helayel made a move from New York to London. “I had just come out of a difficult long-term relationship in New York and I really wanted a change: a new city, a new lifestyle, a new challenge,” she told London’s Daily Mail in 2008. “London was where I longed to live.”
From the looks of it, London, where she’s now a regular household name, loves Helayel right back.
