FASHION WEEK: Carmen Marc Valvo's a Shape Shifter

Carmen Marc Valvo is unafraid of self-congratulation. "The woven ribbon dresses, I think are genius. I really do....the swimwear is so fabulous and so modern...and the eyewear is awesome!" the veteran designer gushed backstage just before the opening of his Spring 2009 runway show.

Luckily for him, it was all awesome indeed. Simple geometry was the inspiration for Valvo's clothes, and so the ribbon dresses he spoke of were the definite highlight--you could almost visualize his team assembling each garment, square by square, and yet there was no visible sign of strain in the final product. Instead it was all easy breezy, as the fabulous dresses, each one shinier than the next and in a chic palette of mostly black white and silver, swept down the runway. If you're searching for that windblown effect, sans an actual smoke machine (and you've got a couture-friendly budget), just snatch up a Carmen Marc Valvo gown. You won't be disappointed.
