Project Runway to Latinos: You're Out!

We remind Bravo’s hit reality show what it's missing this season—us.

Project Runway’s fifth season premiered this week on Bravo, and since last season’s most standout (for better or worse) contestants—Ricky Lizalde and Elisa Jimenez—were Latinos, we've been counting down to this moment with heated anticipation. Where else on TV can you see us spit-marking fabric, wearing biker hats and crying our eyes out, week after week? Certainly not American Idol.

So imagine our dismay when we discovered that this is the first—first!—season of Project Runway where there are no Latino designers competing for Heidi Klum, Michael Kors and Nina Garcia’s affections. That’s right, cero representation. All we can say is that there had better be some freaking phenomenally talented contestants this season, or we’re coming after the judges with pinking shears!

In honor of what once was, here’s a look back at the most memorable Latino contestants of Project Runway’s seasons past. See what you’re missing out on, Heidi?

'WOW! "you people" shame on you. Actually we are not kidding. Latinos are very serious when it comes to fashion and expressing our rich and diverse cultures. As for making demands....you may be taking this article too personal. ' coco10, July 23, 2008 - 11:38am
