ABC has finally announced Wednesday, January 12th at 10 p.m. as the premiere date for Off the Map! As you can tell, we're super excited for this new medical drama set in a tiny town in the South American jungle from Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes. The show stars two Latinas—Valerie Cruz and Aimee Garcia, both of whom you’ve probably seen on other hit TV shows. Without a Trace alum Enrique Murciano was originally cast as well, but was dropped from the show for creative reasons. Read more below to get to know the Latinas of Off the Map!
Where you’ve seen her before: You might know this beautiful Cuban actress from her role as psychiatrist Grace Santiago on the first season of FX’s Nip/Tuck, or for her recurring role as the wife of Assistant District Attorney Miguel Prado (Jimmy Smits) on Showtime’s hit serial killer drama, Dexter. Most recently, she played 600-year-old Spanish vampire Isabel on the second season of HBO’s Emmy-nominated series, True Blood.
Who she plays in Off the Map: Cruz plays Zitajalehrena (Zee) Alvarez, a no-nonsense doctor with a big heart, who works at the remote medical clinic.
Where you’ve seen her before: Aimee is best known for her role as George Lopez’s neice Veronica Palermo on The George Lopez Show and for her role as badass EMT helicopter pilot, Marisa Benez in the NBC medical drama, Trauma. She also narrated the James L. Brooks film, Spanglish, starring Paz Vega and Adam Sandler.
Who she plays in Off the Map: Garcia will play a local who falls in love with a plastic surgeon (Zach Gilford) over the course of multiple episodes.
