By now, many know people know about the struggles that J.R. Martinez went through in Iraq.
During a deployment in 2003, the part-Salvadorian Army veteran and new champion of Dancing With the Stars drove over a landmine and found himself trapped inside. Martinez suffered burns that covered 40 percent of his body and had to undergo a physical surgery and more than 30 surgeries and physical therapy.
Now, the breakout star of Dancing With the Stars has been called one of People magazine’s “Sexiest Men Alive.” In a video interview with the show Anderson, Martinez spoke to host Anderson Cooper about his life-altering struggle and new title as one of the sexiest men alive.
“When they ask me, ‘Did you ever think that would be possible?’ – I say absolutely!” Martinez joked, “33 surgeries, I better be listed as one of the sexiest men alive!”
