During last night's American Idol New Orleans auditions, contestant Jovany Barreto, a 23-year-old Cuban-American ship builder from Louisiana, belted out a cover of Luis Miguel's Spanish song, "Contigo en la Distanciá" that wowed judges Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler.
"From my melodic sensibility, it was really delicious," said Tyler. La Lopez gushed,"You have, wow, a very powerful voice. When you get to a whisper it's beautiful, just as beautiful as when you hit the highest, loudest belting note that you can do. I really feel like you have the talent."
We loved Jovany's tender but strong voice (and the fact that he brought his whole family to the audition)—but even we have to admit we thought the abs showcase was a little ridiculous. But then again, he obviously isn't afraid of taking risks, as singing in Spanish proved!
