After a career that has spanned over three decades, Barbara Walters has announced that she will retire from television journalism, including her show The View, in the summer of 2014. She will remain as the Executive Producer of the show, which has never included a Latina as a permanent co-host in the show’s 16-year history. It’s time for change, and co-host Sherri Shepard would agree. “I think we need a Latina on the show,” she told Jay Leno during a recent visit. Yes, Sherri!
Here are 5 Latinas who could replace Walters on The View! Who is your favorite?
1. The View Replacement: La La Anthony
La La Anthony, 33
The reality television star has already served as guest co-host on the live show during the recent Boston Marathon Bombing. “I think we can learn so much from children. The simplest message can mean so much. No more hurting people. This is so senseless. It makes no sense,” said Anthony about the attack. She’s an inspiring mom who can relate to the show’s demographic. Not to mention, she has amazing camera presence.
2. The View Replacement: Rosie Perez
Rosie Perez, 48
Count on Rosie to keep it real about everything from gentrification in Brooklyn to her hate for politicians like Mitt Romney. The Boricua actress is a Hollywood veteran who is smart, funny, and tells it like it is – sin pelos en la lengua. We think she would breathe new life to the panel and battle it out with notorious conservative Elisabeth Hasselbeck every now and then. Who wouldn’t want to see that?
3. The View Replacement: Rita Moreno
Rita Moreno, 81
The legendary Puerto Rican performer has some things in common with co-host Whoopi Goldberg. She is also one of the rare stars in Hollywood to have earned an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony. She would work her magic if given the mic!
4. The View Replacement: Eva Longoria
Eva Longoria, 38
The first thing Longoria would bring to the table? Passion. The Desperate Housewives star can carry a political discussion as the former co-chair for Obama's re-election campaign and is a positive role model for women everywhere. Yes, she was born for the role!
5. The View Replacement: Gloria Estefan
Gloria Estefan, 55
As a singer, entrepreneur, and new grandmother, the Cuban pop icon would represent a fresh new voice on the panel. If she has inspired countless of people with her music, just imagine what she could do with her voice on that hot seat!
