You might want to get a large order of fries and a 40 oz. Coke to go along with this week’s super-sized edition of Tube News because Latino TV stars are dominating headlines this week.
First up, George Lopez. The comedian has just been knocked out...of his 11 p.m. time slot, that is. Lopez Tonight—the first late night talk show to be hosted by a Mexican American—is being moved to midnight to make room for Conan O’Brien’s new late-night talk show, which will begin airing on TBS sometime in November. In other words, Lopez got Leno'd! But according to TVGuide.com, Lopez personally called Conan and asked him to join the cable network’s late night lineup. He even volunteered to give up his 11PM time slot! "I can't think of anything better than doing my show with Conan as my lead-in," Lopez said in a statement. "It's the beginning of a new era in late-night comedy." Lopez seems genuinely giddy about Conan’s move to TBS, tweeting: “A new era also needs a new name: "Team Lo-Co." Do you think TBS audiences will really tune in to two back-to-back hours of late-night talk shows? We're not sure, but we hope so, we're team Lo-Co all the way!
America Ferrera’s show, Ugly Betty, hasn’t even aired its series finale yet (FYI: that happens this Wednesday night at 10 p.m. on ABC), but she’s already booked her next big role. Following in the footsteps of her mentor, Salma Hayek, Ferrera will executive produce a new, interactive telenovela for MTV called, Pedro & Maria, says The Hollywood Reporter. Co-executive producing the series is Ben Silverman, the show’s creator and former President of NBC, who is credited with bringing the Ugly Betty telenovela format to the U.S. Pedro & Maria sounds like it has the potential to become a major hit for MTV. A contemporary romantic Latino story, it will be the first-ever multicultural interactive series designed for the digital age. The show will allow the audience to vote on storylines and plot points using social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook and will also be bilingual. Welcome to the future peeps!
Soon to come on Oprah: everybody gets a Christina Aguilera! Aguilera will tape a special episode for the talk show queen at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on May 7th. Instead of giving away cars or other lavish gifts to the audience, the notoriously-generous Oprah will be giving Christina super fans the greatest gift of all: The chance to see her perform her new single, “Not Myself Tonight,” en vivo! If you're not one of the lucky fans who gets to see the show live, don't worry, you can watch it when it airs that same day at 4PM. In honor of the occasion, here are some questions we think Oprah should ask Christina during the interview:
- Your single is called “Not Myself Tonight,” and you've changed so much over the years. So I think everyone would like to know: Who is the real Christina Aguilera?
- Are the ass-less chaps from your “Dirrrty” phase permanently retired?
- Will your hair ever be another color besides bleach blond again?
- Are you planning on having another baby any time soon?
Will you watch Lopez Tonight at midnight? What questions do you think Oprah should ask XTina? Tell us in the comments!
