Get ready to meet The Fosters! ABC Family's new compelling drama series, which premieres Monday, June 3 at 9/8c, centers on an interracial lesbian couple raising a diverse set of kids, both foster and biological. Co-created and written by Peter Paige, Brad Bredeweg, Simon Fields, and Greg Gugliotta, Jennifer Lopez serves as an executive producer of the series and we could not be more excited she’s putting her name on a show based on a multi-ethnic family, especially featuring LGBT characters.
An added bonus is seeing two of our young Latino actors stars in the series – budding actress Cierra Ramirez (Girl in Progress) and cutie pie Jake T. Austin.
On the subject of Austin, we wanted to properly introduce his character to you (with cute pics of him, of course!). Before the show premieres, check out six things you didn’t know about his character, Jesus Foster.
1. The Fosters: Fraternal Twin
1. He's a fraternal twin
Jesus has a twin sister named Mariana (Cierra Ramirez). On the show, both were adopted by Stef and Lena Foster five years ago.
2. The Fosters: Troubled Past
2. He has a troubled past
Jesus and Mariana were abandoned by their biological mother when they were younger. Because of this, the teen isn’t too fond of the idea of meeting with her again.
3. The Fosters: Spanish
3. He speaks español
Jesus hasn’t forgotten his Spanish language. In one scene, the teen and his twin sister Mariana exchange hissing words in Spanish before getting interrupted by one of their adoptive mothers.
4. Fosters Ad
5. The Fosters: Charter School
4. He goes to a charter school
Along with his siblings, Jesus attends Anchor Beach Community Charter School, which is also where one of his mothers (Lena) works as the Vice Principal.
6. The Fosters: Meds
5. He takes medication
Jesus regularly takes Methylphenidate (aka Ritalin), which is used for the treatment of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, best known as ADHD.
7. The Fosters: Skater
6. He’s a skater
Jesus is a skating kid at heart (And really, ladies, what's sexier than a guy on a board?). Though he and his siblings get a ride to school every day, he always brings his skateboard with him.
