So switching gears a little bit, how did you come up with the name Nova Star?
My mom did, like I had no say in it.There is this T.V. channel that is all about space and the galaxy, stars and all of that so one day she just wake up and said, “Wow! I was watching T.V. last night and the perfect name is Nova.” The definition is great, it is the birth of a star, and the brightest star so it fits her because she loves to be the center of attention. She is so funny!
She is very cute on T.V. Do you speak Spanish?
I speak a little bit but not too much. My mom raised me very Americanized so I understand a little bit.
So could you defend yourself if somebody were to say something?
Probably not but I know certain words so I think I can put context clues together and figure it out. I think I want Nova to know Spanish, so I wanted to buy the Rosetta Stone so me and her can learn it together. We need that because she is half black so she needs to have some spunk in there “like I speak Spanish and I’m black!”
It’s true and that will help when she gets older and being bilingual is a big thing. So, as far as your education, where are you at with that?
I just finished another semester in school. I want to go back to school just to finish my Associate's in General Studies because I still don’t know what I want to do so hopefully this year comes and I figure something out. Education means a lot to my family and they want me to stay in school so I have to figure it out. That is the least I owe to them and my daughter: stay in school.
Do you have sort of a mental timeline as to when you want to graduate or what you want to do after you graduate?
I don’t know. All I know is that I want to give Nova the best, so whatever it takes I am going to have to do it. I still don’t know what I want to do career wise and it’s driving me crazy!
So when your daughter looks back on the 16 & Pregnant episode and now seeing you on Teen Mom 3, what do you want her to be most proud of?
Me standing up for us, me giving her everything I can to make sure she is happy, and me just being a good mom to her. I think that is what she deserves, the best and nothing but the best!
What do you hope she learns from being on T.V.?
To not make stupid mistakes I made, to learn how to defend herself, learn how to be very strong-minded and not take any crap from anybody, right?
Do you have any regrets being a teen mom?
Any regrets being a teen mom? Hmm. I wish I had waited until I was like 30 but that didn’t happen obviously.
