Scotty McCreery Regrets Not Learning Spanish

Although he made us proud by becoming the first Latino winner in the history of American Idol last night, part-Puerto Rican singer Scotty McCreery revealed on a conference call with reporters this morning that he isn't fluent in español. "I don't speak Spanish," McCreery, 17 told reporters, adding that not learning the language as a child is something he regrets. "My grandma asked me when I was young, "do you want to learn Spanish?' And I guess I was just young. I should have {learned} because it would have helped me out a lot." 

Still, even though Scotty doesn't know Spanish, he says being a quarter Puerto Rican (his grandmother was born in San Juan and his dad was born in Aguadilla), is something that has influenced his life. "Jennifer {Lopez} seems to think it gives me a little flavor," says Scotty, who visited Old San Juan once with his grandmother and went on a cruise there. "I was talking to Jennifer and her mom yesterday before the show, and we were talking about a lot of Puerto Rican stuff," he adds.
