Ortiz, who’s described as the ‘musical director’ of the Red Sox clubhouse, has done more things for the Fan Cave than pretty much any other player, said Tim Brosnan, MLB executive vice president for business. One of Ortiz’s biggest roles will be to encourage other players to get involved.
The slugger doesn’t think it will be difficult. “Players want to be musicians and musicians want to be players,” Ortiz said, “So it’s going to be pretty easy to get my friends in baseball to have fun on MTV.”
While the show might discuss baseball news and field happenings, the main purpose is to promote the game and its players with a younger generation. “Like any other business, cultivating new fans and customers is, was, and always will be an imperative for baseball,” Brosnan said.
The yet untitled show will begin filming in the spring. More details to come.
