One thing we have to say, the MTV Video Music Awards are never boring! We’re guaranteed some off the wall behavior, dramatic wardrobes and amazing performances, and 2011 was no exception. Our Latin stars definitely basked in the spotlight last night. Selena Gomez sparkled in her Julien MacDonald gown with boyfriend Justin Bieber, who also brought his pet snake Johnson along for the ride.

It all started with Gomez rocking the black carpet as co-host of the pre-show, even as she tried to keep a straight face while interviewing her man Bieber, a nominee for Best Male Artist. "I'm here with the one-and-only Justin Bieber," Gomez said coyly. "Who are you wearing? Can you please talk about that?" JB responded by planting a sweet kiss on her cheek. Gomez also interviewed her old BFF Demi Lovato, who looked stunning showing off some sexy skin in a low-cut mini. Seeing the two of them together reminded us of how much the former Disney stars have grown up!

Later in the night Cuban-American rapper Pitbull, who showed up to the awards show alongside gorgeous Detroit 1-8-7 actress Natalie Martinez, brought his Miami swagger to Los Angeles to perform his hit single “Give Me Everything,” with R&B singer songwriter Ne-Yo. Complete with a group of burlesque-type dancers and green laser lights, they basically succeeded in turning the Nokia Theater into a nightclub, which was exactly what they were going for.

Russell Brand kicked off a touching tribute to the late Amy Winehouse, and was joined on stage by Tony Bennett, who shared a video from a recording session he did with Winehouse just a couple of months before she died. Bruno Mars gave the audience a touching rendition of “Valerie,” as a tribute to the fellow throwback crooner and totally wowed the crowd, pulling off a fantastic homage to the great artist we lost.

Bieber and Kanye West had a great night at the VMAs, each snagging a Moon Man a piece, but it was the ladies—Katy Perry, Adele, Lady Gaga—who really stole the show, winning eleven out of the fourteen awards. The awards kicked off with Best Pop Video, which went to a genuine surprised-looking Britney Spears. Later Justin Bieber stole a kiss from Gomez before collecting his Best Male Video award for "U Smile." West even played nice when he came up to collect his Best Collaboration award with Perry.
