First J.Lo signed on to judge American Idol, then Christina Aguilera joined The Voice, and last week, rumors were swirling on the web that Gloria Estefan and Fergie were on the shortlist to help judge Simon Cowell’s The X-Factor. That’s a whole lot of Latina stars judging television’s biggest shows and we’re about to add one more to the list: Mariah Carey.
During a radio interview this week, Simon Cowell revealed that Mariah will be joining him on his new show, The X-Factor (premiering in the fall) in some capacity. "I think Mariah will have a role on the TV live shows," Cowell confirmed. "I met her recently and she was in great form. And her idea was to be the judge of the judges, which only Mariah could come up with," he said. Cowell, who is known for the harsh insults he dished out on American Idol for nine seasons, says he's smitten with Mimi. "She'll be involved in some form. I literally adore her. I love her to bits."
So is he hiring Mimi to join him and producer LA Reid at the judges table on the new, sure-to-be-a-hit show? Not exactly.
Simon joked that if he did hire Mariah as a judge, he’d have to move his show to a “maternity unit” since Mimi is eight-plus months pregnant and set to to pop any day now, but he confirmed that the singer will be a part of the show in some capacity.
