Lauren Velez 's Top Secret Role on "Ugly Betty" Keeps Us Guessing

Just before Christmas, it was announced that Lauren Velez, the boricua actress most known for her role on Showtime's Dexter, will join Ugly Betty as a guest star for multiple episodes in 2009. So far, all we know is that Velez will play Elena, a nurse who "enters the lives of the Saurez family"; the folks at ABC are keeping all other details under strict wraps because her role is directly tied to a major turn of events on the hit show--i.e., someone dies!

That's right: THR reports on a rumor that Velez plays the nurse of a lead character who falls ill and ultimately passes away. At first, we thought the character could be Rebecca Romijn's Alexis Meade, since her real-life pregnancy was about to become an issue, but she appears to have debunked that theory by giving birth over the weekend and pledging to focus solely on raising her babies.

The likelier theory? Tony Plana. Yes, America Ferrera's papi on the show! There's another rumor going around that Ignacio Suarez will suffer a heart attack in an upcoming episode this season, so it would make perfect sense for him to need a nurse.
