Latino Stars to Shine Bright at the 2009 ALMA Awards

Salma Hayek, Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem will be be among those honored for their achievements at the 2009 ALMA awards iin Los Angeles on September 17th.

Hayek will receive the Anthony Quinn Award for Industry Excellence; her best friend, the possibly pregnant Penelope Cruz and Cruz's boyfriend, Javier Bardem are both being honored for their special achievement in film this year.

The award show will be hosted by Tall, Dark and Chicano comedian George Lopez and Desperate Housewife actress Eva Longoria Parker, who is also an executive producer of the ALMA awards. Other celebs being feted for their achievement in movies and television include Cameron Diaz, Eva Mendes, América Ferrera, Selena Gomez, Rosie Perez and Rosario Dawson. Artists scheduled to perform at the awards show include David Archuleta, Nelly Furtado, Selena Gomez, Sean Kingston, Pitbull and Luis Fonsi.

The National Council of La Raza created the ALMA Awards back in 1995 in an effort to encourage and promote fair portrayals of Latinos in the television and film industries. The show is set to air on ABC, Friday, Sept. 18th, at 8 p.m.
