The website reports that 61-year-old Ortega will also direct the untitled project, which is about a multi-generational Latino family that runs a dance studio. Set in Miami, the drama shares the same setting as a new dramedy being developed by FOX, which will be executive produced by Puerto Rican superstar Jennifer Lopez.

Ortega is reportedly set to work alongside Steve Stark (The Event) and Todd Robinson. Together, the three developed the world and show’s characters and, according to Deadline, drew on personal experiences around their own families and connection to dance.

Kenny Ortega Testifies at Michael Jackson’s Manslaughter Trial

Given Ortega’s resume, we’re very optimistic about this show and are excited to learn more about it. The director was behind the wildly successful High School Musical trilogy by Disney and the late Michael Jackson’s This Is It concert tour – which never happened because Jackson died away weeks before the first concert date.

Congrats to Ortega on his new gig!
