How Sweet! Colbert Gives Junot Diaz 'F U' Sweatshirt (VIDEO)

Pulitzer prize-winning author Junot Diaz paid comedian Stephen Colbert a visit on Monday night's Colbert Report. The satirical host playfully poked the Dominican author about his teaching gig at MIT and eventually landed on the topic of Diaz’s position at Freedom University, a volunteer-driven program based at the University of Georgia that strives to provide quality higher education to undocumented immigrants.

They tensely went back and forth about the issue after Colbert challenged, “Why should they get this education? It’s our education. They are taking our thoughts and ideas. It’s our education.” Diaz proceeded to kill the segment by putting Colbert (or his alter-ego) in his place after using a superman analogy for immigration.

“When it comes down to it, we’ve got to decide as a country what we’re going to do with the reality on the ground,” said the Latino writer, “We have a whole bunch of young people, and a whole bunch of families. Are we going to disrupt these families and tear them apart, or are we going to think like, Listen, these people are here. We’ve got to deal with this reality. We’ve got to extend the franchise, and we’ve got to start thinking of a country in a way of how do we pull folks together, not how do we attack them and afflict them.”

Thanks to his clever response, Colbert gave Diaz a “F U” sweatshirt to represent Freedom University. Clever, really.
