Jennifer Lopez knows how to keep it in the family. The Boricua pop star recently revealed that her new ABC show, The Fosters, which focuses on the life of a lesbian couple in a diverse household, was inspired by her aunt who passed away from cancer.
Lopez got emotional when talking about her tia, and revealed, “I had an aunt who was gay. I lived with her and I loved her,” she continued, “I thought of her often when I was thinking about taking on this project and the prejudices that she faced.”
The series co-created and written by Peter Paige, Brad Bredeweg, Simon Fields, and Greg Gugliotta premieres on June 6. The progressive sitcom also stars Cierra Ramirez, Sherri Saum, and Teri Polo. ABC has been featuring more LGBT characters on shows including, Pretty Little Liars and The Secret Life of the American Teen.
