George Lopez Spills the Beans on his New Late-Night Show

Mexican comedian George Lopez is ready for a new adventure. The 47-year-old Latin King of Comedy is set to host his own late night talk show, Lopez Tonight, debuting on TBS in early November. While talking to the press at the Summer Television Critics Association about the show, Lopez explained how he plans to change the late-night landscape.
Though the late-night talk show field is competitive and crowded, Lopez didn’t show any signs of performance anxiety. "The simple plan of the show is to create an energy that isn't anywhere on TV," he said, before adding, “But apparently in some parts of the country I'll be up against telenovelas—can't win that battle.”
Lopez is confident that the presentation of his show will help it stand out. You won’t find a desk, cue cards or lengthy monologues on Lopez Tonight: "It's hard to make formal look cool."
The show’s structure, centered on human interaction, will be flexible and relaxed. Lopez hopes to bring audience members up to the couch, put different guests together onstage and sometimes open with his guests. “It's supposed to be a party, and a party is spontaneous.” Lopez’s background in standup should serve him well with the impromptu approach of the show.
Since Lopez Tonight will be filming in Los Angeles, the question of a possible booking war for guests with other prime-time talk shows came up. Lopez’s sense of humor shone through as he responded, "I don't think ‘The Tonight Show’ is going after Menudo." We can’t wait to watch this mexicano shake things up for late-night television.
