Bounty Hunter Monique Covarrubias Talks About Her Role on New Show 'Fugitivos De La Ley'

Beginning this Sunday, Hispanic cable network mun2 will be airing “Fugitivos de la Ley: Los Angeles,” a reality TV series that follows a team of bounty hunters who track down criminals in Los Angeles. The show is raw, real, and very entertaining. Monique Covarrubias has been a Bail and Fugitive Enforcement Agent for 10 years and is a part of the show! She was kind of enough to give Latina readers the inside scoop.

Tell us about Fugitivos de la Ley: Los Angeles?

It’s jam packed with action! You will see a great team taking down the bad guys with lots of surprises. It’s also a bit crazy and just awesome.

What can Latina readers expect to see when watching the show?

It’s a definite adrenaline rush with all real cases. We have a really good team of professionals and we are going to show people a side of things that they don’t see on a normal basis. They will also get to see me – a female Latina bounty hunter –  which is a rarity in this industry.

Tell us about your role on the show?

I am a fugitive recovering agent. I went to the police academy. My experience alone speaks volumes. Being a woman you have to prove yourself a lot, but the guys took me in and now they appreciate my skills that I bring to the table. I love my job because I can help my community by getting the bad people of the streets, which helps me sleep a little better at night.

Do you have an advantage in this industry being a female?

Well, there was one case where a young guy was dealing drugs. I went under cover, I got all dressed up, and I made conversation with him. Later that evening, I took him outside and arrested him and he had no clue what was going on. Being a woman, you have that element of surprise. Men can’t do that. It was a clean easy capture.

You have a job that requires you to get down and dirty, do you have a beauty secret or something you do that allows you to feel girly?

I always have my nails done and makeup done. I’m a very girly girl. My beauty advice is don’t go to sleep with your makeup on and have good hygiene. I’m the type of woman who believes if you can do something to better yourself, then do it.

What is your favorite thing about being Latina?

Oh, where do I begin? Our culture. Our food. Our upbringing. Everything really! Latinas are wonderful people! They are down to earth, very giving, family oriented, and very loyal. Unfortunately in the Latino community there is some corruption, and I want to encourage youth that it’s best to go down the right path. I also want empower women to be anything they want to be!

I wear a bunch of hats: I’m a mother, a bail agent, and a Latina woman. If I can find a person that I can help, I will try to. I’m a simple girl trying to do an outstanding job in a male dominated career.
