News about the new season of Narcos had been stagnant up until Wednesday when Netflix announced many of the changes that lie ahead. The popular series, that focused on the Colombian drug trade and the life of kingpin Pablo Escobar for three seasons, is headed to North American in the newly titled series, Narcos: Mexico.

The streaming giant also shared images of leads Diego Luna, who plays Guadalajara Cartel leader Felix Gallardo and Michael Pena, as DEA agent Kiki Camarena.

The drama will explore the origins of the modern drug war by going back to its roots, beginning at a time when the Mexican trafficking world was a loose and disorganized confederation of independent growers and dealers, according to a release from Netflix.

Gallardo and Camarena's lives become entangled when the latter receives intelligence on the former complicating his assignment. With the agent's wife and young son tagging along for the adventure, hopefully, no harm will come to them.

But as fans of the original Narcos series starring Wagner Moura and Pedro Pascal, audiences know that anyone is a pawn in the drug war. Netflix even admits that "a tragic chain of events unfold, affecting the drug trade and the war against it for years to come."

If you really want to ruin the ending, you can look up both Gallardo and Camarena, as both were real people who were active in the narco world in the 1980's.

Although no release date has been announced as of yet, the release promises it'll be ready to stream before the end of the year.
