Tonight on MTV Tr3s’ hit show, Quiero Mis Quinces, we meet Yeleini – a Cuban American teenager whose Moulin-Rouge themed quinces was the definition of extravagant.
The biggest challenge facing the Miami 15-year-old was the budget for her party. To make her quinces dream come true, Yeleini’s family had to move into her abuelito’s house, which was really difficult. On top of that, Yeleini’s guest list ballooned up to 70 more than originally accounted for. Would her party be a hit – or a miss?
We chatted with Yeleini about her Quiero Mis Quinces episode, which airs tonight at 6 p.m. ET. The high school freshman shared with us the details of her party, her guest list, and what the best part of her quinces was. Read what she had to say below:
Tell us about your Quiero Mis Quinces episode.
My Quiero Mis Quinces episode is exciting and a little stressful, but beautiful.
Is it true that your family moved to your grandfather’s house in order to pay for your quinces? What was that like?
Yes it’s very true! It’s very hard because we all have different personalities, but it has its moments where it’s very entertaining and fun.
Tell us about your Moulin Rouge theme.
I wanted something different, something that no one has had before. With the help of my choreographer and my friends, we came up with the theme. The colors were red, black, and gold and thanks to Fantasy Designers I had a marvelous huge stage that resembled an actual stage with stairs and balconies. It had lights, glitter, and hearts, with stairs that light up. I also had 2 huge banners with my name and my photos, and two life-sized cutouts of myself done by my photographer Lopez Falcon.
What was the biggest challenge in planning your quinces?
I think the biggest challenge was probably my mother’s budget. I don’t think she expected everything to be as expensive as it was when we first started out planning, and I wanted so many things that it eventually went way over the limit.
How did you end up with 70 more guests invited to your party than originally planned?
As I started planning my party and taking my pictures that were getting posted up online, more and more people started finding out about my party and everyone wanted to go. People would come up to me at school asking for an invitation and begging to go because they heard it was going to be outrageous and fun.
Tell us about your quinces dress.
My dress was actually a wedding dress that we found by accident. I did not even want to try on the dress at first but my mom made me try it on and I fell in love with it. It was made of glitter material so it was super sparkly and had a lot of gems on it. The dress was a corset with a sweetheart neckline. I decided to use it as a quinces dress because it was so beautiful that I couldn’t get it out of my mind. We really found no other dress like it.
What was the best part of your quinces?
It’s hard to say what the best part of my quinces was but I guess I’d have to say coming out of my stage. It was such an awesome moment and I felt like such a princess. When my dad came to help me down the steps, it felt so magical. The other best part was performing the choreography and having a good time with my friends and family. It was such a special night and I was glad to spend it with all the people I care about.
