EXCLUSIVE: Michael Trevino Dishes on Tonight’s All-New ‘Vampire Diaries’

We caught up with Mexican hunk Michael Trevino to get the inside scoop on tonight's all-new episode of The Vampire Diaries (premiering tonight at 8/7c on the CW). The 26-year-old actor dished on everything from Tyler's new powers, to how the character Rebekah (Claire Holt) will come between Caroline and Tyler, and what it was like shooting that intense sex scene with his good friend Candice Accola!

What can you tell us about tonight's episode?

In our last episode, we learned that Tyler has become a hybrid. So in tonight's episode, we're going to see how that's affected him and his personality. Tyler's got a new pep in his step! We're also going to see how his girlfriend Caroline (Candice Accola) feels about it, and how others are reacting to this new phase of Tyler—this new persona that he has.

Now that Tyler is part-vampire, does that mean he's going to become a bloodsucker?

What we'll learn is that there are pros and cons. For one, Tyler isn't bound by the moon anymore—he doesn't have the curse of the moon and he doesn't need to change into a werewolf unless he wants to. But he's also got new supernatural powers! He can compel people now like vampires do. He's got this vamp speed and he can feed on people's blood. So it's these little things that once they're available to you, you're going to indulge. And that's what happens in tonight's episode.

EXCLUSIVE: Michael Trevino on 'Vampire Diaries': "Tyler is A Little Too Tough to be Sacrificed"

Within the mythology of the show, if a werewolf bites a vampire, the vampire dies. Does that mean that if Tyler bites himself he dies?

{Laughs}. That's a very good question and I'm going to have to talk to my executive producer and get back to you on that one.

A lot of Vampire Diaries fans are worried that the character Rebekah (Claire Holt) will try to steal Tyler away from Caroline. Do they have reason to worry?

I wouldn't say they should be worried, but just know that Rebeka—now that she's in Mystic Falls—wants to let it be known that there isn't just one sexy blonde vampire, but that there are going to be two running around. She's got a strong personality, so she's going to have fun with that and tease and play around with Caroline—especially regarding Tyler.

EXCLUSIVE: Michael Trevino: “I’m a Boxer-Briefs Guy”

In the season premiere, Tyler and Caroline had an intense sex scene. Was that a fun scene for you and Candice Accola to shoot?

Oh, absolutely. {Laughs}. It was our season premiere and it has been a long time coming. A lot of people are fans of Caroline and Tyler being together. So our producers throwing it in there in the first episode of the season—I thought it was great. And it turned out pretty awesome. Me and Candice, we’re really close. We're great friends, and we have awesome chemistry. We were jumping on each other and laughing. Candice is a gorgeous girl.

Your Vampire Diaries producer Kevin Williamson has a hot new show on the CW called The Secret Circle. Is there any chance there will be a crossover episode with The Vampire Diaries?

Probably not. Both are solidifying themselves as standout shows on their own. I don’t think that’s going to happen anytime soon.
