EXCLUSIVE: Evelyn Lozada On Being a Latina Role Model: "I'm Not Perfect"

Evelyn Lozada knows how to serve up the drama on VH1's Basketball Wives, and now the Boricua reality star is creating an added dose of melodrama for her first novel, Inner Circle. The story centers around three gorgeous women who are married to professional athletes and go through life experiences that best-sellers are made of, including love, heartache, loss and lots of drama!

We got a chance to chat with Evelyn about her fast-growing empire, including her new book, VH1 reality series spin-off with fiancé Chad Ochocinco titled, Ev and Ocho, E by Evelyn Cosmetics line, and more. Check out what she had to say below:

What do you want fans to take from your new novel Inner Circle?

"It's a juicy and fun novel. I just want them to have a glipse of what this crazy lifestyle is like. It developed from journals that I have kept for years. Courtney Parker (contributor) and I sat down to filter out what made sense for the book. It was a really interesting process for me."

What did you learn about yourself?

"That I've been through a lot in life, relationships, and friendships. For me it's normal, but most people probably wouldn't be able to live this life. I wouldn't trade it for anything though."

The Basketball Wives part 2 reunion special was tense after they made Jennifer Williams take a lie detector test that revealed that she was jealous of your relationship with Chad. What was going through your head at the time?

"My reaction is all in my face! There was just so much drama going on and so it's nice to have the confirmation that that was the basis of everything. That's what I suspected for so long, but I didn't want to believe it because we had been friends for so long. I'm not like that, you know. I love it when people are happy and successful in their relationships, so for me it was all shocking."

Several celebrities have taken to their Twitter accounts to post comments about how you set a bad example for young women. What's your response to that?

"I don't take those things in a negative way. I'm very open about my life and I let people in on all aspects with my dad, my daughter, my relationship - and I will be the first one to tell you if I think I could have handled a situation in a better way. I'm human just like everyone else is, and I'm not perfect all of the time. I think those comments came at the right time for me though, and I'm more aware of the example I set for young women."

People see you as a reality television personality, but you are also a self-made business woman. What new products do you have in the works?

"I'm expanding my makeup line and designing new pieces for my jewerly line. The butterfly piece that I designed on the show sold out, so we are working on new pieces to sell in the months to come. I'm also working on expanding my clothing line, which will include maxi-dresses and flowly tops. I even have panties in my line! (Laughs)"

Your wedding is also fast-approaching. Do you have any details you can share with us?

"My life is crazy with this wedding! I'm wearing a dress by Ines Di Santo. She's amazing! I told her I wanted to look very sexy and Latina. You know, I wanted to wear a fitted mermaid-cut dress. We designed something together and you are going to love it when you see it!"

We can't wait! Evelyn's spin-off Ev and Ocho airs this fall on VH1 and her book Inner Circle is in stores now.
