WATCH: Eva Mendes Fights Against Domestic Violence for PBS Special 'Half the Sky'

Eva Mendes has a passion for women's rights and global change.

The Girl in Progress star traveled to Sierra Leone to fight against domestic violence issues and explore how to empower women, along with the International Rescue Committee, for PBS's powerful new documentary series, Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide.

The series, which premieres tonight, was inspired by the nationally acclaimed book by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn. Several other stars are joining Eva on the journey including, America Ferrera, Gabrielle Union, and Meg Ryan.

"The book made such an impact on me," said Eva about why she joined part of the program. She also expressed, "I was really shocked at what still goes on in the world regarding women and little girls."

The premiere of Half the Sky featuring the Cuban actress airs tonight and Oct 2 at 9pm on PBS. Watch a preview of her visit below and let us know what you think.
