With Desperate Housewives ending next May, Eva Longoria was set to part ways with ABC, the network she has called home for seven years. Now, Deadline.com is reporting that the Mexican actress has signed on to executive produce a new series for the alphabet network—an English-language remake of the hit telenovela Soy Tu Dueña, which will be co-produced by Televisa.
The Spanish soap, which aired on Univision from June through December of last year, and starred Fernando Colunga and Lucero, centers on a Texas heiress who loses her fortune and is forced to move back to the modest ranch she grew up on. (No word yet on whether Longoria will play the heiress).
ABC has reason to be optimistic about the remake. After all, when the soap aired on Univision it ranked as the most-watched telenovela ever and the second-highest-rated in the 18-49 demo. Of course, this isn't the first time ABC will adapt a Spanish-language telenovela. From 2006-2010, the network aired Ugly Betty, a dramedy starring America Ferrera that was a remake of the popular Colombian telenovela, Yo Soy Betty, La Fea.
