Dancing with the Stars Season 23 has officially seen its first elimination – and a heartbreaking one, at that.
Jake T. Austin
The season’s first elimination came between Jake T. Austin and his partner Jenna Johnson versus Ryan Lochte and his partner Cheryl Burke. The viewers chose to send Austin home, after Monday night’s cha-cha performance based on Go Diego Go! Lochte and Burke slid by into next week.
Austin looked shocked and sad, but told host Tom Bergeron that he “had a blast” on his short run, and was very grateful for the experience of learning from his dancing partner.
Lochte’s DWTS drama has simmered down, but the swimmer is still trying to improve each day. “What happened in Rio changed my life,” Lochte said last night. “I was irresponsible and immature.” The Olympian even admitted that he “hit rock bottom”, but now wants to work harder than ever this season.
Little Hernandez is quickly becoming this season’s superstar. The gymnast and partner Val Chmerkovskiy were the first couple guaranteed through to next week, after putting on a stellar “Duck Tales” dance on Monday night.
Last night, Hernandez’s fellow Olympic teammate Aly Raisman was in the crowd and had some sweet words for encouragement for her favorite dancer on stage.
