CONFIRMED: Mariah Carey Will Appear on 'The X Factor'

Mariah Carey is joining both the U.S. and the UK versions of The X Factor, Deadline confirms.  Simon Cowell, who spearheads the singing competition, has repeatedly mentioned his interest in having the singer jump on board as a “mentor” to the new show’s contestants, and it looks like he finally got his way. Although Mariah has laid low since giving birth to twins, it looks like she is ready to hop back into the limelight.

A souce confirmed: “Simon has created a unique role just for Mariah after plans for her to be in the original US judging line-up fell through. Four months after having her babies, Mariah is ready to get back to business; she has lost so much weight for her small screen debut. The idea is for Mariah to assist Simon at the judges’ houses stage of the US show, as well as helping the other judges. It has yet to be confirmed, but the other plan is for her to be given a special, one-off fifth judge role on the British show.”

Should the 41-year-old new mami sign the deal, she wouldn’t be the only female star to join the show.  According to an insider, Carey is already helping to garner some of her big name friends. She has reportedly reached out to other superstars to join the show.  The X Factor, which began in the United Kingdom by Cowell, will premiere Sept. 21 on FOX.  Cowell will judge alongside Paula Abdul, L.A. Reid, and Nicole Scherzinger.
