We're pretty sure George Lopez is not happy about this news. After making history as the first Latino to have a late night talk show, TBS just announced that they will not renew Lopez Tonight for a third season.
"TBS has reached the difficult decision not to order a third season of Lopez Tonight," the company said in a statement. "Thursday will be the final episode of the show. We are proud to have partnered with George Lopez, who is an immensely talented comedian and entertainer. TBS has valued its partnership with George and appreciates all of his work on behalf of the network, both on and off the air."
This is upsetting and frustrating for many Latino viewers and fans of the groundbreaking Chicano comedian. But as Eva Longoria told us, "I think the biggest lesson for viewers and Latina readers is that if you’re not watching the shows, then you cannot complain that we’re not getting nominated. There was a reason that The George Lopez Show got cancelled: It didn’t have ratings and now it’s doing so well in syndication. And yet we have over 50 million Latinos in the United States that should have been watching The George Lopez Show."
She is right on the money there, but we're definitely going to miss Lopez Tonight! How are we going to play "Bullet Wound/Not a Bullet Wound" now?!
Be sure to watch tonight (there are only two more episodes left, TBS announced Thursday would be the last show!) to catch our August cover girl Jessica Alba!
