What could be a more appropriate purchase for a Latina of the modern age than a set of religious, devotional candles featuring the likenesses of Florida’s wisest fictitious women, Blanche Devereaux, Dorothy Zbornak, Sophia Petrillo and Rose Nylund, also known as TV’s The Golden Girls?
Here’s what creator and Etsy seller VegasGiblet, has to say about his wares:
“After years of quoting and revering these four ladies, now you can finally light a candle and elevate your prayers and worries to the skies above Shady Pines where they will be heard! (This works infinitely better if you offer a slice of cheesecake to your saint.)
Each candle comes in an 8" glass holder, with the a high-resolution image of your saint of choice affixed by us (with a few more fun, festive embellishments, of course!)”
Remember when your abuelita used to light her veladoras on her home altar to ask God to please protect your tío from getting too drunk and trying to make moves on the cat again? Well, it’s time that tradition was passed on to you with these veladoras for the next generation. Now that most of the Girls are dead, they might actually have some pull with the Big Guy, too.
But what is this? Apparently I wasn’t the only one who thought this was a great idea. The candles sold out in one day! But VegasGiblet says new variations are coming soon. Keep an eye out for these. You don’t want to have worse luck with your love life than you already do. You want to be a Blanche . . . maybe not.
