Jessica Sanchez and Phillip Phillips battled it out on last night’s final performance round on American Idol. Sanchez embodied a full-blown pop diva with a powerhouse voice and flawless tone for her three rounds of covers last night.
"This is a tough one because it’s a battle of the opposites,” said Jennifer Lopez. Phillips has a raspy rock voice that, we have to admit, makes us swoon while Sanchez is a natural-born vocalist with the possibility of becoming the next soulful pop queen.
Sanchez, who has covered tracks by mega pop stars like Mariah Carey, performed yet another Whitney Houston track. Her version of "I Have Nothing" without a doubt won the first round. Even Randy Jackson and the other judges agreed that her vocal control and soulful range was on-point and probably won the round.
For round two, the teen singer performed Celine Dion’s “The Prayer.” The track isn’t an easy cover to master, but she nailed it! Sanchez also performed the ballad “Change Nothing” in round three, but the judges weren’t left satisfied. “That was just okay,” admitted Jackson. Ouch.
Still, we think Jessica Sanchez has what it takes to win it. Watch her performance of “The Prayer” below and let us know what you think!
