Las Vegas was all about female power on last night’s American Idol! The top ten graced the stage as voting was finally opened up to fans at home. The infamous Zoanette kicked things off with a karaoke-worthy performance of Tina Turner's "What's Love Got to Do With It," which the judges painfully laughed at. Thankfully, that was just the start of the evening.
Amber Holcomb, Kree Harrison, Candice Glover, and Tenna Torres delivered and made their mark as top contenders in the competition. Torres, who proved to be an instant favorite among the panel, shined with a dramatic rendition of Faith Hill's "Lost." At some points she swallowed the lyrics a bit, but ultimately she was praised for her power voice and control.
Before gracing the stage, the Puerto Rican contestant from Queens, New York admitted that she was concerned about her hairstyle after Nicki Minaj dissed her tresses during her previous audition. She came out with a new do and was praised for her look and vocal delivery. “It was just right. Not too much. Classy,” said Minaj.
Randy Jackson was a fan and gave her props. “Sometimes these songs can be over sung and you didn’t do that. You have one of those voices where you can sing almost anything,” he said.
Torres’ idol Mariah Carey praised her for the song selection and originality of her cover. “You are so consistent when you sing and I loved the richness in the beginning,” she continued, “I love you, and I hope America loves you too.”
